For many years, Sigma have been a huge player in the third party lens manufacturing game. Now, it seems, they are stepping up the pace with rumours of a line-up of lenses for mirrorless cameras doing the rounds. A number of sources have claimed that patents have been seen for the following lenses:
- 14-30mm f/4
- 28mm f/1.4
- 28-70mm f/2
- 33mm f/1.4
- 20mm f/1.4 (APS-C)
- 23mm f/1.4 (APS-C)
Sigma’s More Affordable Option
If true, it would seem that Sigma are certainly aligning themselves to potentially provide a more affordable option to some very popular Canon glass, in particular the 28-70mm. Another interesting option would be the 14-30mm lens that apart from being an interesting option for traditional landscape photography, could be an option for vloggers! However, no actual details of the lens exists, yet.
Exciting as this potential line-up seems, nothing has been officially offered by Sigma and even though it is highly likely that they will offer new lenses developed for mirrorless cameras in the near future, these offerings remain, allegedly, patents only.
Top Knotch Glass
One thing is for sure though, Sigma have certainly proved their ability to make amazing glass in the past. With more affordable mirrorless cameras entering the market from the likes of Canon, having a broader selection of reasonably priced lenses would certainly benefit the end user.
Time will tell which lenses Sigma chooses to launch and when, but more options is better for the end user and that can’t be a bad thing. Watch this space for more information in the coming months.
